About Gilles GRETHEN (1966) photography.

I am an experienced photographer from Luxembourg. My main subject is the great outdoors but from time to time I feel the need to shoot some street photography or urban landscapes.

My passion for and my knowledge about photography (film and digital) grew constantly since my first oversea travels in the early eighties. In my photographs I often try to emphasize the grandeur and scale of the landscape.

When I am out shooting I normally forget about time. In these so called zen moments I am fully present and aware in the act of taking a photograph. This state of mindfulness can lead to a sense of peace and tranquility and can also result in more powerful photographs.

To create truly beautiful landscape photographs, a photographer must have a deep understanding of light, composition and the elements of design.

That said, I am an observer of light, shapes, colors, structures, lines and contrast. Translating these elements into a two dimensional image which “works” is the main challenge. In the end it’s all about creating images/fine art prints with depth, mood and in the best case emotions.
